What is the Valor Games?

The Valor Games is a sport competition series that is offered regionally across the United States. This sport competition is for any Veteran with a disability who is eligible for VA healthcare. This event was funded [in part] by a grant from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. What are the dates and general schedule for Valor Games Far West (VGFW) 2019?

The 2020 Valor Games Far West will take place June 11-14, 2020. Note that 2019 event information (including schedules, maps, sponsors, resource fair, results, photos, and more) is available in the Archives.

Where will the competitions take place?

The 2020 event will take place at Coast Guard Island, Alameda, CA.

Where will the athletes stay?

Hotel accommodations are provided for athletes during the event. Hotel accommodation information will be announced as it becomes available.

Where is the closest airport?

Oakland International Airport (reminder: airfare scheduling and purchasing is NOT provided by VGFW)

Am I eligible to compete?

This sport competition is for any Veteran with a disability who is eligible for VA healthcare. Athletes must apply. Learn more about the application process.

How do interested athletes apply?

All interested athletes are REQUIRED to apply for VGFW. Priority is given to athletes who live in the Western Region of the USA who have not competed in VGFW in previous years.

What do I (the athlete) need to pay for?

Not much! Once the athlete arrives to the host hotel on opening day, all of your scheduled meals, hotel stay, transportation to/from the events, and apparel is provided at NO COST. The athlete is required to pay for any transportation TO the host hotel on opening day and FROM the host hotel on closing day. This means that the athlete must pay any flights, taxis, and vehicle costs. Information about travel assistance will be available soon.

Can my family attend?

Family and friends are highly encouraged to attend this event as spectators. Please note that family and friends are required to secure their own lodging, transportation, meals, and any other expenses that an individual may incur. More information about family/friends will be announced in the upcoming months.
